7 Mile Non-Motorized Entrance Update:

In 2020, the Maybury State Park’s General Management Plan identified a non-motorized entrance along the southern border of the park as a priority to provide community access from all directions and link current and planned trails in Wayne and Oakland Counties.  After a fundraising campaign in 2020, the Friends of Maybury State Park donated $18,000 in 2021 toward the preliminary engineering study. Since the entrance will be constructed in a Wayne County Road Right of Way, a traffic count study was completed in January 2022 and it was determined that a HAWK (Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon Signal) is required to approve construction. The first phase, which has been funded and completed, was the project engineering and design of the pedestrian HAWK signal crossing and access into the park. The Friends of Maybury State Park has received many generous private donations. All funds that were donated for the Seven Mile entrance have been allocated for this project. In addition, over the last several years two matching grants were applied for and received from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. In January of 2024 the park received an engineering cost estimate for the project and has become aware that additional funds need to be raised for completion. The DNR and Friends of Maybury State Park are fully committed to this community and park enhancement and are exploring private and public funding avenues in order to complete the project. Schedule a Track Chair Tour Today

 If you, or someone you know, has difficulty enjoying Maybury State Park because of mobility issues, the Track Chair may be perfect for you.  The Friends of Maybury would like to give you a guided tour of Maybury State Park.   These battery-powered chairs can easily handle woodland trails, snow, sand, and up to 6 inches of water.   The chair joystick operated, or if desired, can be operated remotely by our guide.

 You can reserve the Track Chair at no cost by calling the park office at  (248) 349-8390  Mon-Fri from 8am to 4:30pm.   At your reserved time, a member of the Friends of Maybury knowledgeable about natural features and park history will meet you at the park headquarters building.   Each hike is 1-2 hours based on your desire and utilizes both paved and unpaved trails.  The hikes are generally offered May-October. (hikes are weather dependent and might start earlier than May and might be available into November)  It’s best to give a couple day/time options available when reserving the chair.
